Week3 (volunteering)

Nothing you can get it from first time, that which called experience. In third week of our volunteering I been more enthusiastic to volunteer. Very great feeling when you deal special needs and when you try to improve their talent. That really beautiful thing when you make special need feel them self happy and as a normal human being.

People fare to deal with them because they don’t deal with special needs before also they fare about unexpected habit from special needs that may they face it. However, after dealing with special needs more than three times monthly that you will know how to deal with them. I love special needs also the employee in ZHO love special needs, why? Actually any one who deal with special needs will tell you the same thing, because most of the special need are kind people and they learn and love to learn from you when teach them but with kindly way, (they doesn’t accept to learn from you if you were evil with them). One other important thing that some of them you have to be strict with them. In limitation you have to be their friend also to know when you have to be kind also when you have to be serious.

27 Oct 2015 was my third volunteering day that I joined two workshops (Electro Mechanic and carpentry2). When I was with special needs on Electro Mechanic workshop I surprised about our community service teacher Mr. Gregory that he was checking to our volunteering work. That he advised me to be more and more with special needs to understand them very will.

My second period was with carpentry workslop2 students that they were building beautiful small ships after that they had sport activities that special need was talking with me about their sport achievements either at the state level or worldwide. I played soccer with them before they sport teacher to come and I was very happy about performance and skills of some of them. After their sport teacher reached they had basketball class. That was another great day in my life. 

Advices

  I hared about agriculture department that great special needs students can join it and work there for getting a salary. My advice to provide more choices for them for example building wood factory, cable factory and so on for them. That special needs who got develop from ZHO and been ready to join actual work environment can have a lot of job choices.

Week2 of volunteering

Second week of our volunteer in ZHO was a new challenge for us that we got a lot of new information which was really benefit for us That I learned when you teach someone about something you have to benefit him in every thing, what does that mean? My major in carpentry for example so I will not just focus in teaching special needs about carpentry, while I will try to teach them about ethical rules in general (without pressuring them) in depending to my life experience. That exactly the method which I saw the most workshops in ZHO are using.

 What is their efficient daily program?

1-    Starting the day by reading Al-Fatihah from the Koran which take less than 2 minutes.

2-    Review about safety rules and workshop rules

3-    Academic skills review

4-    Craft skills review and completing daily activities

5-    Finally Arrange and organize the workshop

In 22 Oct 2015 (second week) I joined 2 workshop in ZHO. My first period was in carpentry workshop with the teacher Mr Ahmed Alhammadi and the second period was in Electronics workshop with other two teachers.

 I was really impressed about some of special needs who has very high and special performance. I asked question about that for their teachers, the answer was (This can happen after long time of dealing and teaching the special needs). One other important information that one of the ZHO teachers told me (special needs brain has like a smooth that you have to give them the information step by step if you want his/her performance to be on right way).

The need our interest for reaching to the normal people level after that science level. I don’t exaggerate because they have many things which we don’t have like they don’t getting bored from their work if they worked for the long term (more than 7 hours connected for example) reverse to the normal people.

My advice for ZHO to make genius department that no body can reach it except who are ready to be in the real labor market. This department major to make the last preparation for those kind of special needs for joining real labor market.

13 Oct 2015 was first volunteering day for my group in ZHO. Ms Maitha Almuhairi took us round special needs departments which include 11 departments (Carpentry, blacksmithing, electricity and so on). Each one of us choose department to stay on it even we will exchange departments weekly. That was absolutely new experience in our life.

I decided to be in Printing/Binding workshop on my first day. First thing I faced there a guy called Ahmed Alharbi (special needs boy) told me someone hit me, I told them “so you have to hit him also” which was wrong procedure actually from me. The teacher Mr. Mohamed heard that and and called me. He was talking with me about his experience with special needs how to deal with them, the challenges you face and so on, in the same time I was seeing the methods which he was using in dealing with people who are on special needs.

Actually I learned a lot of things from Mr. Mohamed such as before to take any decision you have to talk with special needs in suitable term to understand the situation also for taking right decision on right time. He told me each one of them has like a catalog(history) which include all details about themselves, so you as a person when you have specific information about them you will can to deal with those special needs by most efficient way.

Advices

When you deal with some kinds of people for a long term you take from there habits so that I believe  this thing is so dangerous when the teachers spend long term with special needs.

What the point that I’m looking for?

There should be employment rotation like the teacher take his/her first week on teaching special needs. Second week he/she exchanging work with who are working on management department for example. Spending a lot of time daily with the special needs may react some undesirable habit to the teachers habits.

Giving each of those people their needs and cover any shortfalls they have, is will be our purpose to make them satisfied about their life. People deserve that. We will try actually to invent methods which can benefit this organization as well as possible.

To be successful must important thing will be the obligation. We have to obligate about ZHO rules, coming on time, trying to invent new successful things always, giving ideas, trying to be benevolent by being patient, be positive.

Actually we have to initiate always to help people who joined ZHO and deal with them normally which is most important thing and cooperate with them in their activities for supporting their trust.

  

7.    What are the specific Benefits for the participants? (Both volunteers and recipients)

Absolutely this will increase satisfaction about our self situation. We believe this activity will be really successful for us which will improve our communicating skills either with old people or with kids or with people who are in special needs position. Moreover how to use those people capabilities in benefit our culture? looking for answer of this question will return benefit for both volunteers and recipients so we will search about that.   

8.   Any potential problems you see arising??

Any new challenge people face it in first time like a problem. There is the probability of mistakes to happen but we will try to prevent those mistake as much as possible while if the problem happens which possible we have to learn about our mistakes. The challenge will be how to achieve their needs without making problems, this is actually which we are looking for.
